I've watched brilliant artists disappear. Not because their work wasn't good enough. But because they couldn't navigate the relationships that sustain artistic careers.
I've also seen artists with solid work—not extraordinary, just solid—build lasting careers. The difference? They understood something fundamental about our industry.

The Vulnerability of Connection
Here's what I've learned: every email you send matters. Every form you complete speaks to who you are as a collaborator. Every interaction builds or erodes trust.
This isn't about being perfect. It's about being present.
When a gallery reaches out, respond within twenty-four hours. Even if you're overwhelmed. Even if you only write: "Received this, will respond fully by Friday." That simple acknowledgment changes everything.
Complete paperwork thoroughly. Read every word. Follow directions exactly. I know this sounds basic. But galleries eliminate artists for technicalities every day. Don't let bureaucracy kill your dreams.
Arrive on time. Not early. Not late. Exactly when expected.
If you can't handle drop-off yourself, ask a friend. Don't burden gallery staff who are already managing dozens of artists. They remember everything.
